CAE MWYNDERAU TALYLLYCHAU
A first rough
draft!!
The field
lies at the centre of Talley, on the south side of the main B
road. It lies next to a field used for recreational purposes by
the village school and other groups, owned by CCC. The field has
come into the possession of the village through a 106 agreement.
It is currently very rough meadowland.
Key aims and
objectives of the proposed development of the field:
Environmental:
the project makes use of the natural condition of the field
rather than seeking to produce a neatly manicured public park
Educational:
the field will be developed for and by members of the village
school: see below
Recreational:
the field will have a range of recreational purposes for the
village community
Ecological:
the field will provide a small scale version of Cors Caron or
the like, through the introduction and encouragement of
appropriate animals and plants
Conservation:
the field will provide a location for a green waste recycling
scheme for the village
Sustainability:
wherever possible local materials and local people will be used,
and the project will evolve over time
Involvement:
a public consultation has already been undertaken, and local
interest groups, immediate neighbours and others will be
involved in the planning, creation and long-term development of
the field.
Key features of
the scheme:
Some will
require external funding to ‘get things going’; others
critically will involve direct contributions and work by members
of the village community
School
allotment:
raised
beds at the eastern edge of the site, providing opportunity for
the village school to grow and eat its own food
Green
composting scheme:
composting bins at the western end of the scheme, by the road access. A
working group will run the bins to produce compost for use on
the site and for sale within the village
Adventure
play:
a play
area using locally produced planks and poles, similar to that
recently constructed at Newton House
Wild
flower meadow;
aesthetically and ecologically pleasing
Pond and
ecology area;
central
to the scheme in every sense, using the natural damp site to
full advantage, and meeting many of the objectives listed above
Hedge
planting around the site:
a key
aspect to provide shelter and food for wild life, colour and
variety, some shielding for immediate residents
Tree
planting:
a tree planting scheme will be drawn up. Individuals will be
asked to buy from the list, thus providing funding, and a source
of ownership of the field project as whole.
Orchard:
a
particular aspect of tree planting, next to the school
allotment, with similar aims
Gazebo
and BBQ area:
a central point of focus at the heart of the project to the
north of the pond area
Footpaths:
access to
the site should include a surfaced footpath across the north
side of the site, usable by the disabled, by walkers through the
village, with immediate links to the social facilities mentioned
above. Other less formal paths should be established to enable
access to the whole site. Benches should be provided at points
where users suggest they are needed.
Willow
tunnels etc:
given the
nature of the site the construction of tunnels, domes etc would
be most appropriate and meet many of the objectives of the
project.
Some
implications of the project:
Focus for
the village community including links with the Talley community
woodland
Potential
links to a range of external organisations, particularly
environmental and conservation
Ownership
and involvement
Evolution
over time
Positive
environmental footprint

and information
